Biological Safety Cabinet
Providing Class II protection for Personnel, Product, and Environment.
Product Overview
Our Class II Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC) are designed to provide three levels of protection: personnel, product, and environmental. They use dual HEPA filtration and negative pressure plenums to safely handle biohazardous materials.
Working Principle
The Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) operates on the principle of controlled airflow and negative pressure to provide comprehensive protection to the operator, product, and environment. Ambient air is drawn into the cabinet through the front opening, creating an inward airflow that prevents contaminants from escaping into the laboratory and protects the operator. This inflow air is combined with HEPA-filtered downflow air supplied from the top of the cabinet, ensuring a uniform, laminar airflow over the work surface to maintain product sterility. A portion of the air is continuously exhausted through a dedicated HEPA filter, while the remaining air is recirculated within the cabinet, depending on the cabinet configuration (A2 or B2). The use of negative pressure plenums and dual HEPA filtration ensures that potentially hazardous aerosols are safely contained and filtered before exhaust, maintaining environmental safety. This carefully balanced airflow system is critical for safe handling of biological materials.
Available Class II Configurations
Class II Type A2
In Type A2 cabinets, approximately 70% of the air is recirculated through the supply HEPA filter, and 30% is exhausted through the exhaust HEPA filter back into the room or vented out.
Ideal Applications:
- General microbiological work (BSL-1, BSL-2).
- Cell culture & Pharmaceutical research.
- Handling non-volatile toxic chemicals (minute amounts).
Class II Type B2
Type B2 cabinets are 100% Total Exhaust units. No air is recirculated inside the cabinet. All inflow and downflow air is exhausted through a dedicated hard-ducted facility exhaust system.
Ideal Applications:
- Handling toxic or volatile chemicals.
- Work involving radionuclides.
- Highly infectious biological agents.
Applications
Microbiology Labs
Vaccine Production
Pathology
R&D Centers
